The Yobe State Government has intervened in a dispute over access to WAEC results involving hundreds of applicants from the state attending the Nigeria Police Academy (POLAC) screening exercise in Wudil, Kano.
The applicants contacted MaidawaArewa after arriving at the academy for the screening, saying they had been unable to access their secondary school examination results because of an outstanding payment issue.
According to the candidates, they were informed by the academy’s management that applicants whose secondary school results remained listed as “awaiting result” could be disqualified from the process.
The Nigeria Police Academy’s official screening notice requires candidates to present their SSCE results, including WAEC, NECO or NABTEB results. Yobe candidates were scheduled for the screening exercise on Wednesday, 16 September.
Following the complaints, MaidawaArewa contacted the Yobe State Government and raised the issue with the Secretary to the State Government, SSG.
Dr. Mohammed Goje, Secretary to the State Government, SSG assured the newspaper that the matter would be addressed, saying: “It must be sorted today.”
Following further communication between MaidawaArewa and the state government, the affected WAEC results were made available online.
Several of the candidates subsequently confirmed to MaidawaArewa that they were able to access their results and could proceed with the screening process.
The development comes days after MaidawaArewa reported concerns by Yobe students over delays in accessing WAEC and NECO results following an earlier assurance by the state government concerning payment.
The government said it remained committed to supporting Yobe citizens facing challenges affecting their educational and career opportunities.
The SSG, speaking on behalf of the administration of Governor Mai Mala Buni, also apologised to the affected students and their parents for the inconvenience caused by the delay.
The intervention means the affected candidates can now continue with the POLAC screening process, subject to meeting the academy’s other requirements.
POLAC’s official notice states that the 13th Regular Course screening exercise includes computer-based testing, physical screening, medical screening and a selection board interview. The exercise runs from 9 to 18 September 2026.
