The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Taraba State, Senator Abubakar Umar Tutare, has called on the government and security agencies to take urgent action following the killing of 37 people in Binnari village, Amar Ward, Karim-Lamido Local Government Area.
The killings reportedly occurred on Friday, prompting Tutare to condemn the attack and describe it as unacceptable.
In a statement issued in Jalingo on Sunday by the Director of Media and Publicity of the Tutare Campaign Council, Saidu Sadiq Adamu, the ADC candidate urged governments at all levels and security agencies to take immediate steps to protect lives and property, particularly in vulnerable communities.
He also called for the identification and prosecution of those responsible for the killings to deter further attacks.
Tutare expressed concern over what he described as recurring attacks on peaceful communities across the state, particularly in Sardauna and Karim-Lamido local government areas.
“Every citizen has the constitutional right to life, welfare and own property, and the prime duty of any government is to ensure the security and sanctity of these rights at all times,” the statement said.
He urged the authorities to move beyond expressions of concern and adopt proactive measures to prevent further violence and safeguard affected communities.
These measures, according to the statement, should include the immediate deployment of security personnel and the provision of adequate resources to address security gaps in vulnerable areas.
Tutare sympathised with the victims and their families, expressing solidarity with affected communities at what he described as a difficult time.
He also prayed for the repose of the souls of those killed and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
