The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Taraba State says it has begun preparations for the 2027 elections, with campaign structures being organised in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Agbu Kefas.
The party’s state Publicity Secretary, Aaron Artimas, said consultations and mobilisation had been under way ahead of the formal launch of the campaigns.
Speaking to Apex News Exclusive in Jalingo, Mr Artimas said more than 30 support groups were campaigning for the president and governor across the state.
He said the party was working to bring the groups under a common structure and ensure that their campaign messages were coordinated.
“We are trying to harmonise all the supporting groups under one umbrella and ensure that the messages they are sending out are precise and concise,” he said.
Mr Artimas said Governor Kefas had been designated chairman of the campaign organisation for President Tinubu in Taraba.
He added that additional committees representing different sections of society would be inaugurated to support the campaign.
“Our structures are already on the ground and up and doing because they are well organised under the leadership of the party and the top hierarchy of personalities in the state,” he said.
The APC spokesman said the party had also established committees for consultation, organisation and coordination ahead of the elections.
He said more than 10 support groups had visited the party’s state secretariat with lists of their executives, members and locations.
According to him, the party has structures extending from wards to local government areas.
Mr Artimas also claimed that several prominent individuals with large followings had expressed interest in joining the party’s campaign effort.
Electoral violence
Asked about measures to prevent electoral violence in Taraba, Mr Artimas welcomed Governor Kefas’s recent executive order aimed at curbing political violence.
He said the APC had no reason to engage in violence and called on political parties to focus their campaigns on issues.
“We don’t need to fight anybody. It is not a matter of fighting but a matter of support,” he said.
He accused unnamed political opponents of concentrating on attacks against President Tinubu and Governor Kefas on social media.
Mr Artimas said political competition should instead focus on presenting alternative ideas and policies to voters.
Infrastructure claims
The APC spokesman also defended the Kefas administration’s record on infrastructure, citing road construction and other projects across the state.
He specifically mentioned the Wukari-Kente-Chinkai road and the Wukari flyover project.
He said the projects demonstrated that development was taking place across the state, despite criticism from opposition figures.
“People just sit in one place and start to accuse the government, which is not true,” he said.
He urged critics to visit project sites before concluding that little or nothing was being done by the administration.
Mr Artimas said development projects could not all be completed at the same time and that the government was implementing projects in phases.
The APC says it will continue its mobilisation and organisational activities across Taraba ahead of the 2027 elections.
