The Secretary to the Yobe State Government, Mohammed Goje, has met Vice President Kashim Shettima in Abuja to discuss youth participation in governance and opportunities for the state to benefit from federal government programmes.
Goje said the meeting, held on Tuesday, 27 October 2026, provided an opportunity to seek the Vice President’s guidance on leadership, public service and nation-building.
According to Goje, Shettima encouraged young people to move beyond their comfort zones, accept greater responsibilities and contribute meaningfully to national development.
The Vice President also commended Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni for creating opportunities for young people to participate in governance, urging young public office-holders to justify the confidence placed in them through competence, integrity and measurable results.
The discussions also focused on federal programmes and policies that could benefit Yobe State, including electricity supply, the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), remuneration for tertiary institution staff and security personnel, academic stability, support for state governments and investment in critical infrastructure.
Goje reaffirmed the commitment of young leaders and heads of government and political institutions in Yobe to supporting policies aimed at national development and improving citizens’ living standards.
He said the meeting also addressed key elements of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and possible ways to strengthen its implementation in the state.
Shettima reportedly commended Governor Buni’s contributions to the Renewed Hope 2.0 initiative and expressed confidence in his ability to consolidate the gains of the administration in Yobe while supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC) across northern Nigeria.
Goje said his engagements with the Vice President continued to reinforce the importance of learning, service, sacrifice and responsibility in leadership.
He added that young leaders must make effective use of the opportunities available to them and translate them into tangible benefits for the public.
The Yobe SSG also reiterated the commitment of young leaders in the state to communicating the achievements of the Renewed Hope Agenda, supporting its reforms and encouraging public engagement with the federal government’s policies.
