Residents of Konduga in Borno State have reported an ongoing attack by terrorists suspected to be Boko Haram or Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), raising fresh security concerns in Nigeria’s North-East.

Local sources told Maidawaarewa that the insurgents reportedly arrived in the community at about 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, firing sporadically and causing panic among residents.

“The situation is bad. The government should help save us,” one resident said in a distress call while describing the unfolding attack.

The source added that the attackers appeared to have engaged security forces stationed in the area, raising fears that the militants may have attempted to overrun security positions.

There were also reports that New Marte, another community in the state, was simultaneously under attack by suspected insurgents. However, details of casualties or damage remained unclear as of the time of filing this report.

The latest development comes days after a deadly raid on Ngoshe in Gwoza Local Government Area, where suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP fighters reportedly killed several soldiers and civilians and forced residents to flee their homes.

Security authorities had not issued an official statement regarding the reported attacks in Konduga and New Marte.

Residents in the affected areas continue to call for urgent intervention from security agencies to prevent further escalation of violence.
