Tension has intensified within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Taraba State as a large number of party stakeholders have strongly opposed the proposed automatic endorsement of Alhaji Abubakar Bawa—who until yesterday served as Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)—as the new APC State Chairman.

Bawa announced his resignation from the PDP on Monday and has since been touted by some political actors for immediate placement in the APC leadership structure. However, many APC members have rejected the move, insisting that the party’s top position cannot be handed to a recent defector.

Concerned stakeholders argue that elevating Bawa to the state chairmanship would marginalise long-standing members who have sustained and strengthened the party through multiple electoral cycles. They maintain that such a sensitive position should be reserved for loyal party figures with a consistent track record.

Internal consultations are ongoing, and senior APC leaders are expected to meet in the coming days to address the rising discontent and provide clarity on the party’s leadership direction in Taraba State.
