Mamman Mohammed, the Director General of Press and Media Affairs to Governor Mai Mala Buni, has dismissed as baseless and unfounded, a claim circulating on social media attributed to one George Udom, alleging that Governor Buni is among APC governors planning to defect to the PDP ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a press release issued Saturday, Mohammed described the publication as “a fabrication rooted in poor political calculation and unwarranted imagination.” He stated that neither George Udom nor his so-called sources have any credible connection to Governor Buni, making their claims nothing more than “a wild goose chase.”
“It is a great disservice and poor political calculation if the so-called George Udom thinks he can build a political story for H.E. Atiku Abubakar with baseless fabrications,” the statement read.
The DG emphasized that Governor Buni’s loyalty to the All Progressives Congress (APC) is absolute and unwavering, noting that Buni is not an ordinary member but a founding figure and a two-term National Secretary of the party. He also reminded the public of Buni’s pivotal role as former National Chairman who led the party through critical periods, including its national convention.
“APC flows in Governor Buni’s veins. His contributions to the party are immense, and the idea that he would abandon the APC is nothing but a wishful fantasy concocted by political opportunists,” the statement added.
Mohammed further suggested that the rumor-mongers are only envious of Buni’s political sagacity and wish they had a leader of his caliber.
The fabricated list circulating online, reportedly released by George Udom, claims that five APC governors including Buni are preparing to switch allegiance to Atiku Abubakar’s PDP. However, the Yobe government insists that such claims should be disregarded in their entirety.
