Yobe State Government, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and security agencies, conducted a joint security assessment of Mallum-Dunari communities in Gujba Local Government Area of the state.
The meeting was held on May 23, 2024 in the state.
This initiative marks a crucial step towards ensuring the safe return of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and fostering long-term stability in the region.
Led by the Security Adviser to Governor Mai Mala Buni, the assessment aimed to prepare war-torn communities for development.
Prolonged conflict had caused displacement in the area.
The assessment team, instructed by Gov. Buni, engaged local leaders to identify current challenges, assess existing security measures, and explore areas for improvement.
This collaborative effort underscores the commitment of Yobe State, security agencies, and the UNDP to creating a safe and conducive environment for sustainable development in the affected area, enabling a durable solution for displaced persons.
The governor, upon receiving a briefing from UNDP Northeast Head of Office Mr. Moncef Kartas, reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to lasting peace and stability for displaced communities.
He emphasised the assessment’s importance in guiding effective interventions and expressed gratitude for the UNDP and security agencies’ ongoing support.
Mr. Moncef reaffirmed the UNDP’s commitment to supporting Yobe State’s recovery and development efforts.
He emphasised security’s role as a foundation for sustainable development and pledged the UNDP’s close collaboration with the state government and security agencies to implement solutions for displaced populations.
This joint security assessment marks a significant step towards restoring lasting peace and development in Gujba’s affected communities.
The Yobe State team for the mission was led by Security Adviser Gen. Abdussalam Dahiru, Dr. Goje Mohammed; Executive Secretary of SEMA, and Suleiman Dauda; Solidarity Coordinator, among others.
