Police authorities in Gombe State have arrested three suspects in Nafada Local Government Area over alleged involvement in ritual activities linked to the exhumation of human remains.
The development was disclosed on Thursday by a Lake Chad–based counter-insurgency and security analyst, Zagazola Makama, in a post on X.
According to the report, the incident occurred on February 24, 2026, after a resident, Zakari Ibrahim, alerted authorities upon allegedly sighting a suspect digging a grave at the Barwo Sabon Gari cemetery.
During interrogation, one of the suspects, Umar Ibrahim, 30, was said to have confessed to exhuming body parts at the request of his father, Ibrahim Usman, 60, allegedly for ritual purposes. He reportedly further admitted to previously removing a human toe from the same cemetery in 2025 and handing it over to another suspect, Alhaji Bappa Abdu, 35.
All three suspects have been taken into police custody and are assisting with ongoing investigations.
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
