Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of veteran journalist and respected media practitioner, Aliyu Abubakar Getso.

In a heartfelt condolence message issued by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the governor described the late Getso as a genius and a pillar of ethical journalism, whose death represents a monumental loss to the media profession, Kano State, and Nigeria at large.

Governor Yusuf noted that Aliyu Getso distinguished himself through his professionalism, integrity, and unwavering commitment to truthful reporting — qualities that earned him the admiration of colleagues and media stakeholders nationwide.

The late journalist, who dedicated decades to the advancement of the media industry, served as an editor at Freedom Radio, made significant contributions to Vision FM and Premier Radio Kano, and also worked with the Kano State Ministry of Information.

A committed member and former State Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kano State Council, Getso was celebrated for his role in promoting press freedom, professional excellence, and the welfare of media practitioners. He also mentored many young journalists who benefited from his wealth of experience, guidance, and generosity.

Governor Yusuf prayed to Almighty Allah to forgive the deceased’s shortcomings, reward his good deeds, and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus, while urging his family and colleagues to bear the loss with fortitude.
