Yobe State Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, on Monday received a high-level federal government delegation in Damaturu as the North-East Development Commission (NEDC) commissioned several major development projects across the state.

The delegation, led by the Minister of State for Regional Development, Hon. Uba Maigari Ahmadu, included members of the National Assembly, the Managing Director/CEO of the NEDC, Mohammed Goni Alkali, board members, and senior officials of the commission.

Representing the governor at the event, Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Baba Mallam Wali, lauded the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for its continued support to the NEDC and for driving impactful projects in the North-East.

Governor Buni emphasized the significance of the NEDCโ€™s mandate in rebuilding the region following the devastation caused by the Boko Haram insurgency. He noted that education and economic development had been particularly affected by the crisis, but collaborative recovery effortsโ€”particularly with the NEDCโ€”were beginning to yield tangible results.

He called on the federal government to extend support for the completion of key infrastructure projects, notably the Geidamโ€“Maine Sorowaโ€“Damasak road, which he said would enhance security and connectivity in the region.

In his remarks, Minister Uba Maigari Ahmadu reaffirmed President Tinubuโ€™s commitment to restoring peace and development in the North-East. He underscored that the Ministry for Regional Development and five newly established development commissions are central to the Presidentโ€™s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at addressing regional imbalances and promoting inclusive growth.

NEDC Managing Director, Mohammed Goni Alkali, highlighted the significance of the projects being inaugurated as a testament to the strong partnership between the federal government and Yobe State. He outlined the commissioned projects, which include 18 vocational training centers, an ICT hub and 250-seater auditorium at Yobe State University, a newly constructed NEDC office, and three model schools across the stateโ€™s senatorial districts.

Dignitaries in the ministerโ€™s delegation included Senator Usman Zanna, representing the Chairman of the House Committee on NEDC; Hon. Lawan Shettima Ali; Hon. Abdulkadir Rahis; and the NEDCโ€™s Executive Director of Administration and Finance, Dr. Abubakar Garba Iliya, among others.

The visit marked another milestone in the NEDCโ€™s mission to support reconstruction and sustainable development in the North-East region.
