Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has extended condolences to troops of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) and the government of the Republic of Cameroon following a recent Boko Haram attack in Wulgo, a border town near Gamboru Ngala.

Governor Zulum paid a sympathy visit on Thursday to Cameroonian forces under Sector 1 of the MNJTF, during which he expressed solidarity with both the soldiers and the Cameroonian government. The governor was received by the MNJTF Force Commander, Major General Godwin Michael Mutkut, in Wulgo, approximately 15 kilometers from Gamboru Ngala.

“I am here to commiserate with you and with the government and people of the Republic of Cameroon over the recent unfortunate incident,” Zulum said. “I salute your bravery and unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property in the region.”

He reaffirmed the commitment of the Federal Government of Nigeria to supporting the MNJTF and the Cameroonian authorities in their ongoing fight against terrorism and insurgency in the Lake Chad region.

“The Nigerian government will explore all possible avenues to complement the efforts of the Multinational Joint Task Force and the Cameroonian government to ensure lasting peace and stability in the Lake Chad basin,” he added.

Governor Zulum also pledged continued assistance from the Borno State Government to support troops operating within the theatre of war.

Accompanying the Governor on the visit were Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan (Borno Central), Special Advisers Hon. Idrissa Jidda and Hon. Mustapha Dalatu, Chairman of the Borno State Social Investment Programme Hon. Yuguda Saleh Vungas, Chairman of Ngala Local Government Area, and the Governor’s Principal Private Secretary.
