Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has cautioned farmers and herders in the state to shun taking laws into their own hands at the slightest provocation.

He said, instead, both parties should endeavor to report any trespass or infraction of their rights to the constituted authorities nearest to them.

Buni gave the warning on Monday while presiding over a routine meeting with the Caretaker Committee Chairmen of the 17 local government areas at Government House, Damaturu

Represented by his deputy, Idi Barde Gubana, the governor noted that the strategic meeting became pertinent to discuss the security situation of the state, especially in rural areas.

“As chief security officers of your respective local governments, it is expected of you to cooperate with the security agencies so as to achieve complete security of lives and property of your people”, he urged them.

Buni also tasked caretaker committee chairmen to ensure that peaceful coexistence and tranquility are promoted in their respective areas all the time.

He, however, commended the security agencies in the state for their efforts at ensuring peace, law and order in the state.

“We equally appreciate the efforts of traditional rulers and community leaders in conflict resolution in their respective domains”, Buni said.

He further urged the local government Caretaker Committee Chairmen to intensify prayers and surveillance in their areas to prevent possible attacks by suspected migratory herders.

“May Allah bring sustainable peace in our state and the country as a whole”, he prayed.
