10th Assembly: North East legislators emerge majority whip at upper, lower chambers

North East legislators have gotten the position of majority whip in both the upper and lower chambers of the 10th National Assembly.

Sen. Mohammed Ali Ndume, senator representing Southern Borno at the upper chamber became the senate majority whip while Usman Bello Kumo, a member representing Akko Federal Constituency, Gombe State became the chief whip of the green chamber.

They are both members of the All Progressive Congress, APC.

Their names was announced on Tuesday morning during plenaries of both chambers.

Other principal offices announced by Godswill Akpabio, president of the senate alongside Mr. Ndume are:

1. Sen. Opeyemi Bamidele – senate majority leader
2. Sen. David Umahi – deputy majority leader
3. Sen. Lola Ashiru – deputy majority whip.

Similarly, principal offices announced by Tajuddeen Abbas, the speaker of the house of representatives are:

1. Julius Ihonvbere (APC – Edo) – house majority leader.
2. Halims Abdullahi (APC – Kogi) – deputy majority leader.
3. Adewunmi Onanuga (APC – Ogun) – deputy chief whip.

Abbas also read a letter from the minority caucus which detailed the names of the principal officers.

The letter named Kingsley Chinda of People’s Democratic Party as minority leader and Aliyu Madaki of New Nigeria People’s Party as deputy minority leader.

Others are Ali Isah of PDP as minority whip and George Ebizimawo of Labour Party, as deputy minority whip.
