Gunmen kill vigilante officer, injure two others in Kogi

Suspected hoodlums have gunned down a vigilante officer identified as Mustapha in Ankpa Local Government Area of Kogi State.

MAIDAWAAREWA gathered that, the suspected gunmen who were fully armed with dangerous weapons also shot at two individuals who sustained degrees of injuries.

The incident which happened at the weekend according to sources in Ankpa town revealed that the gunmen arrived in a Toyota Hilux van and shot at their target close to Ejeh Palace by 11 pm on Saturday.

A resident of Ankpa town, Mallam Usman Abubakar, who claimed that the deceased vigilante officer, before his demise, was very prominent in his vicinity revealed that his widow recently put to bed.

“The deceased was found in his pool of blood. Before he could call for help, it was already late. This tragic incident has continued to trigger anger within the Ankpa community.

“The people here believe they have lost a gallant and courageous man who has always stood for the truth in our community. All they are clamouring for now is justice for the slain vigilante officer and improved security in Ankpa community,” Abubakar stated.

The two victims that sustained injuries according to eyewitness accounts are currently receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital.

When contacted on Monday, Police Public Relations Officer SP William Ovye Aya told MAIDAWAAREWA his office is yet to be informed about the sad incident.

He said he would call the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Ankpa to get more information about the killing.

As of 4:21 pm on Monday, Aya has yet to respond to request.
