The Yobe State Hisbah Commission has detained six women suspected of sex work following an operation in Gadaka, in Fika Local Government Area.
Officials from the commission’s Fika command carried out the raid on Saturday evening in the Abuja area of Gadaka town, according to the head of administration for the Fika local government unit, Malam Musa Abari Talba.
Mr Talba said the operation also targeted sites suspected of selling and processing alcoholic drinks. He told journalists that Hisbah officers conducted awareness campaigns during the exercise, warning residents against activities the commission regards as contrary to religious and societal norms.
He added that officers preached to residents and urged them to comply with the law and avoid practices considered harmful to community moral values.
The commission described the raid as part of ongoing efforts to promote peace, discipline and good moral conduct in Yobe State. Mr Talba said similar operations would continue to enforce compliance with the law and support orderly communities across the state.
