Yobe governor approves jobs for over 1,000 medical students and salary upgrades
Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has approved the employment of more than 1,000 medical and allied health science students currently studying at higher institutions in Nigeria and overseas.
Under the decision, 294 medical students will be employed on salary grade level 07/2, while 801 allied health science students will be placed on grade level 05/2. The governor said the measure is intended as an incentive to encourage the students to complete their studies successfully and later serve in government health facilities.
Governor Buni has also approved the implementation of the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance (CATA) and Earned Academic Allowance (EAA) for staff at eight state-owned tertiary institutions and other ministries, departments and agencies.
The institutions are the College of Agriculture, Science and Technology in Gujba; Galtima Mai Kyari College of Health Science and Technology in Nguru; Shehu Sule College of Nursing and Midwifery in Damaturu; College of Administration, Management and Technology in Potiskum; Mai Idris Alooma Polytechnic in Geidam; Atiku Abubakar College of Education and Legal Studies in Nguru; and Umar Suleiman College of Education in Gashua.
In a related development, the governor approved a review of the entry point for veterinary medical officers, raising it from CONMESS 2/2 to CONMESS 3/2, along with upgrades to the existing CONMESS salary structure. He also approved a consolidated salary structure for law officers in the state Ministry of Justice and the placement of judiciary staff on the CONJUSS salary structure.
Governor Buni said the decisions are designed to improve the welfare of the beneficiaries and motivate them to deliver better public services. “To whom much is given, much is equally expected. You should reciprocate this gesture with improved service delivery for the betterment of the state and the people,” he said.
