A former President of the Senate, Senator Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan, has called for unity among supporters in Yobe North Senatorial District following the selection of a consensus governorship candidate by the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement, Lawan said the Yobe State chapter of the APC had endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for re-election and agreed to adopt consensus candidates for key positions, including the governorship.

He confirmed that Alhaji Baba Malam Wali, a former Secretary to the State Government, had emerged as the party’s preferred candidate for the gubernatorial race.

Lawan acknowledged that the decision might not align with the expectations of all party members, noting that differing views were a normal part of democratic politics. However, he emphasised the need for party unity and discipline.
“I have accepted this decision in good faith,” he said, urging his supporters to remain calm and rally behind the party’s choice.

He described the development as a significant opportunity for Yobe North to contribute to the leadership of the state and pledged his support for Wali’s candidacy.

The former Senate President also called on APC members across the state to work together to secure victory in the 2027 elections at all levels.

He urged supporters to prioritise collective progress over individual ambition, warning that internal divisions could weaken the party’s chances at the polls.

Lawan reaffirmed his commitment to the APC and expressed confidence that unity would strengthen the party’s prospects in Yobe State.
