Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has granted state pardon to three inmates and approved the remission of sentences for five others as part of activities marking the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

Among the beneficiaries of the pardon is Sunday Jackson, who was previously sentenced to death and detained at the Kuje Medium Security Custodial Centre. Others granted pardon are Joseph Eugene, held at the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Yola (New), and Maxwell Ibrahim, currently serving his sentence at the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kaduna.

In addition, the governor approved the full remission of the remaining jail terms of Joshua James Audo, Adamu Ibrahim, Mohammed Abubakar, Ibrahim Usman, and Saidu Abubakar, who are serving sentences at the Medium Security Custodial Centres in Numan and Jada.

Governor Fintiri said the decisions were based on recommendations by the Adamawa State Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy, noting that the beneficiaries had demonstrated significant improvement in character, discipline, and conduct during their incarceration.

“Therefore, in the exercise of my prerogative of mercy as enshrined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and in line with the recommendations of the Adamawa State Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy, I have granted pardon to three persons and approved the remission of the remaining sentences of five others who have shown good conduct over the years,” the governor stated.

A statement issued on Tuesday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Humwashi Wonosikou, said the gesture reflects the administration’s commitment to justice, rehabilitation, and compassion, particularly during the festive season.
