The Yobe State Focal Person on Cyber and Information Technology, Abdulmumin Kolo Gulani, has called on Governor Mai Mala Buni to redeploy the Chief Security Police Officer attached to the Government House over alleged misconduct and assault on a journalist.
In a statement issued, Gulani alleged that the officer, a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) who has served in the Government House for nearly two decades, recently assaulted Mr. Babagana Kolo, a reporter with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).
He described the officer’s behavior as “arrogant and unacceptable,” warning that such conduct could tarnish the image of the Governor’s administration and undermine efforts to maintain a cordial relationship between the government and the media.
“As a key stakeholder in the state’s security and information ecosystem, I believe prolonged deployment of an officer in one location breeds complacency and compromises professionalism,” Gulani stated. “The officer’s actions risk creating a negative narrative that could undermine the Governor’s achievements, particularly in promoting cyber security and information technology.”
He further appealed to Yobe State Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Ado, to intervene and ensure a thorough investigation, adding that redeploying the officer would help preserve the long-standing cooperation between journalists and the police in the state.
Gulani commended Governor Buni for his efforts in promoting peace and stability across Yobe, urging him to take swift action “to protect journalists and sustain the administration’s image of fairness, discipline, and accountability.”
