President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sworn in Professor Joash Amupitan as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The brief ceremony took place on Thursday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, marking the formal assumption of office by the new electoral chief.

Amupitan, who appeared in a white agbada and gold cap, succeeds Professor Mahmood Yakubu following the expiration of his tenure.

During his nomination and screening, Amupitan pledged to strengthen Nigeria’s electoral integrity, emphasizing his commitment to building a system where “the loser will congratulate the winner after every election.”

With his swearing-in, Amupitan is expected to steer INEC toward reforms aimed at transparency, credibility, and public trust in future elections.
