Armed bandits launched a deadly attack on a mosque in Yandoto community, Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State, killing at least five worshippers and abducting several others during dawn prayers on Friday.

The incident, reported by security analyst Zagazola Makama on X, occurred around 5:00 a.m. when the assailants stormed the mosque and opened fire on congregants observing early morning prayers.

Witnesses said the attackers later whisked away a number of worshippers into the surrounding forest, sparking fear and grief across the community.

Funeral prayers were held for the slain victims, described by locals as devoted Muslims who rarely missed their daily prayers at the mosque.

The Zamfara State Police Command has yet to release an official statement on the attack as residents call for stronger security measures to protect rural communities facing relentless assaults by armed groups.

The attack adds to the growing wave of insecurity in Zamfara and other parts of the North-West, where armed banditry and kidnappings continue to disrupt lives and livelihoods.
