Yobe Govt Launches Food Basket Programme, Distributes 50,000 Bags of Grains Across State

The Yobe State Government has unveiled the 2025 Governor Buni Food Basket Support Programme, a large-scale relief initiative targeting vulnerable groups, institutions, and communities across the state.

The distribution exercise, scheduled for 22nd September 2025 at the August 27 Stadium, Damaturu by 2:00 p.m., will see the allocation of 50,000 bags of grains aimed at easing the impact of rising food prices and economic hardship.

According to the official breakdown, 17 Local Governments to get 25,500 bags (1,500 each), Vulnerable persons 2,000 bags, Junior civil servants (MDAs) 2,000 bags, Primary school teachers 5,580 bags, Primary Healthcare staff (178 wards × 10) 1,780 bags, Casual staff of 8 tertiary institutions 2,000 bags, Other groups and associations 4,000 bags, Miyetti Allah 600 bags, Kullen Allah 400 bags, Kotal Hore, 600 bags, NURTW 700 bags, Casual/junior staff, Specialist Hospital 400 bags, Casual/junior staff, Teaching Hospital  200 bags, Tsangaya schools  1,200 bags, while People living with disabilities gets 3,400 bags

Governor Mai Mala Buni described the initiative as part of his administration’s ongoing efforts to cushion the hardship faced by the people, particularly the most vulnerable households.

The government assured that the distribution will be transparent and inclusive, with monitoring mechanisms to ensure fairness across all categories.
