The First Lady of Borno State, Dr. Falmata Babagana Zulum, has honoured Faiza Abdulkadir, a cleaner at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, for returning ₦4.8 million mistakenly credited to her bank account.

Faiza, who earns ₦30,000 monthly while supporting five children and her aged mother, received ₦1 million cash from Mrs. Zulum at a special ceremony in Maiduguri. The First Lady described her as a role model whose honesty should inspire all.

The state Commissioner for Women Affairs, Zuwaira Gambo, also announced additional rewards, including vocational equipment and food items, commending Faiza’s integrity as “a rare and inspiring display of character.”

Faiza, a resident of Gwange, Zawiyya, explained she returned the money out of fear of God. “The money does not belong to me. I returned it to have peace of mind and avoid God’s punishment on the Day of Judgment,” she said, noting it took three days of bank processes before the funds were successfully refunded.

Neighbours and bank officials praised her modest lifestyle and discipline, describing her as a woman of integrity who lives within her means despite financial struggles.
