Three members of the Taraba State House of Assembly have defected from opposition parties to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Those who crossed over include Hon. Anas Shaibu Didango (Karim II Constituency, APGA), Hon. Umar Adamu (Jalingo I Constituency, NNPP), and Hon. Zakari Sanusi (Ibi Constituency, NNPP).

Their letters of defection were read on Monday, August 25, 2025, during plenary by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. John Kizito Bonzena, who commended the lawmakers for what he described as a “wise and timely decision.”

Explaining their reasons, the defectors said the move followed wide consultations with stakeholders, youth and women groups, and grassroots supporters, who endorsed their decision as being in line with the “visionary leadership” of Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas. They credited the governor for transformative strides in education, healthcare, infrastructure, security, and community development.

The development strengthens the PDP’s dominance in the Assembly where it has held majority since the creation of the state in 1991 and is expected to boost the party’s chances in the forthcoming local government elections scheduled for November 15, 2025, as well as in the 2027 general polls.
