The Yobe State Government is set to host a grand ceremony in honour of two exceptional students, Nafisa Abdullah (17) and Rukayya Muhammad Fema (15), for their outstanding international achievements in English language skills and debate at the 2025 TeenEagle Global Finals held in London, United Kingdom.

The duo, students of Nigerian Tulip International College (NTIC) and beneficiaries of the state’s scholarship scheme, represented Nigeria and emerged as world champions, outperforming over 20,000 participants from 69 countries, including native English-speaking nations.

In a statement made available to MaidawaArewa, Governor Mai Mala Buni, in approving the honour, described their victories as a “monumental pride” to the state and Nigeria.

“These are great feats that justify our continued investment in the education sector,” the Governor said.

Nafisa clinched the top spot in the English language skills category, while Rukayya was crowned best overall in the global debate competition.

Both students are among 890 scholarship beneficiaries of Governor Buni’s educational support programme at NTIC. The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring accessible and quality education across Yobe State:

“We have rebuilt schools destroyed by insurgency, equipped classrooms with modern learning materials, and recruited qualified teachers. Education remains a top priority,” he added.

Currently, over 40,000 students from Yobe State are on government-funded scholarships in institutions across Nigeria and abroad. The administration recently celebrated the graduation of 167 Yobe students in medical sciences, engineering, and ICT from universities in India, another success story of its strategic education investment.

The upcoming celebration aims to inspire young minds across the state while showcasing the results of sustained educational reforms under Governor Buni’s leadership. The statement added
