Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum has urged the North East Development Commission (NEDC) to shift focus toward impactful, long-term infrastructure projects that can drive real development across the region
Speaking on Tuesday while hosting the NEDC board and management team, led by Minister of State for Regional Development, Uba Maigari Ahmodu, at the Government House, Zulum emphasized the need for strategic investments in security, independent power supply, dry inland ports, road networks, and the African Continental Free Trade Zone.
“So, let’s come up with what we can do to get maximum benefit from establishing the commission.”
“Other commissions have come on board; we cannot afford to perform below them. This time around, we must have a yardstick. Otherwise, not only the minister, the chairman of the House committee, or the MD, but all of you are from the northeast; a time will come when we will call you out that there is nothing tangible to show within your tenure.”
While commending the commission’s humanitarian support and ongoing education projects, the governor called for intensified efforts to meet the broader goals of rebuilding and stabilizing the northeast.
Minister Uba Maigari echoed the governor’s call, emphasizing closer collaboration with the North East Governors Forum to drive the North East Stabilisation and Development Plan (NESDP). He pledged the ministry’s commitment to ensuring the NEDC fulfills its mandate.
Also in the delegation were the Chairman of the House Committee on NEDC, Hon. Usman Zannah, NEDC Board Chairman Maj. Gen. Paul Tarfa (Rtd), MD/CEO Mohammed Goni Alkali, and other top officials.
