Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) recently hosted a high-level delegation from the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) for a three-day strategic stakeholders engagement visit.
The visit aimed to co-create a comprehensive national strategy on durable solutions for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), returnees, and host communities across Nigeria.
Key Highlights of the Engagement
Yobe State has demonstrated leadership in displacement response by being the first state in Nigeria to domesticate an IDPs policy and among the earliest to develop and implement a State Action Plan (SAP) on Durable Solutions.
This achievement showcases the state’s commitment to addressing displacement issues.
The state government, UN agencies, International NGOs, National NGOs, and relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) have worked together to develop the Yobe State Action Plan, highlighting a collaborative governance approach.
The engagement featured high-level discussions on policy implementation, funding commitments, and progress made in delivering durable solutions.
The focus was on collaborative learning, coordination mechanisms, and aligning state-level actions with the national durable solutions framework.

This visit sets a strong precedent for other states working towards sustainable solutions for displacement, strengthening national-subnational collaboration.
Effective stakeholder engagement strategies, such as clear and transparent communication, stakeholder inclusion in decision-making, and regular feedback and evaluation, will be crucial in ensuring the success of this initiative.
