Union of Campus Journalists University of Maiduguri chapter yesterday held its official launch and inauguration of its members

The glamorous event which held at American space Ramat Library had professionals and the entire members of the union in attendance.

In what appears as a traditional practice of American space Ramat Library, the coordinator Mr. Francis Abaya, traced a historical evolution of the center and its workings. In his address, he mentioned how the American space serves as a learning and resource center. He emphasized on the need to make good use of the library, stating that everybody is welcomed to make use of the corner positively whenever the need arises.

In her opening remarks, Rukaiyatu Idriss, the President, UCJ Unimaid thanked all those who graced the occasion assuring them that the union is poised to record milestone achievements and ensure responsible journalism.

On his part, the General Secretary of the Union, Abdullahi Khairalla had while giving the overview of the union spoke on the structure of the union, its membership strength as well as prospective internship opportunities for the members where he sought for support and guidance from the NUJ Borno state council as well as the Mass Communication department.

Dr Sharafa Dauda, the Staff Adviser I of the union, discussed extensively the objectives of the union, suggestions and advices.

Equally, Dr Abdulmutallib Ado Abubakar, Head of Department, Mass Communication, University of Maiduguri who delivered an insightful presentation on the canons of Journalism, expressed his happiness of being part of the launch and reiterated his commitment and full support to the union.

So also, Mr. Mohammed Auwal Nganjiwa presented a topic titled “Exploring Opportunities in Evolving Media Landscape” where he dwelled on seizing opportunities in the fast-changing media landscape, digital entrepreneurship, its dimensions, strategies and the power of digital platforms.

Contributing, Zainab Y Adam, a Co. Founder of the union gave an inspiring story of her journey as a campus reporter saying that, journalism is all about personal efforts and dedication.

 

Finally, Aisha Yusuf Sabo, the financial secretary had while giving a closing remark talked on the membership of the union, the need for payment of the union dues among other issues of immense importance to the union.

The Chairman, Nigerian Union of Journalists, Borno state council Comrade Dauda Iliya and a representative of the SUG president were among the dignitaries that attended the occasion.
