7.1m Need Humanitarian Aid In North East, Says Minister

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar-Farouk, says 7.1 million people in the North East are in need of humanitarian assistance.

Speaking Thursday in Abuja during the maiden edition of the 2022 management retreat, she said 1.8 million people were internally displaced due to insurgency, terrorism, disasters and conflicts.

She said climate change also contributed to the humanitarian situation, worsening flood and drought.

She also stated that the N-power programme had employed over 1 one million youths from 2015 till date, both graduates and non-graduates.

The permanent secretary of the ministry, Nasiru Sani Gwarzo said within the three years of the ministry’s existence, it had come up with policies serving as instruments that guide the implementation of the various programmes and projects of the ministry.
