Nigerian troops, supported by members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), hunters and local vigilante groups, have recaptured the military base in Ngoshe, located in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, following a recent deadly attack by suspected insurgents.

Security sources said the operation to reclaim the base was carried out on Tuesday after fighters linked to Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) reportedly overran the facility and launched an assault on the surrounding community.

A military source who spoke to reporters on Wednesday morning confirmed that government troops had regained control of the base after engaging the insurgents in a gun battle.

“We are currently in Ngoshe military base after some gun battle with the remnants of Boko Haram terrorists,” the source said.

Despite the recapture of the base, the situation in the Ngoshe community remains unclear. Local reports indicate that insurgents caused significant destruction during the attack and allegedly abducted about 300 residents.

While security forces have secured the military facility, it remains uncertain whether the surrounding community—located roughly one kilometre from the base—has been fully stabilised.

Military authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the development as of the time of filing this report.

More details are expected as the situation continues to unfold.
