The Lagos State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, has replaced DCP Muyiwa Adejobi as the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO)

Hundeyin, who has served as Lagos Command spokesman since March 2022, will now assume national duties at Force Headquarters following Adejobi’s redeployment to the Delta State Command.

Adejobi’s exit marks the end of a turbulent tenure. Once described as the public face of the Nigeria Police, his years in office were clouded by allegations of repressing dissent on social media, shielding the institution from accountability, and entanglements that drew sharp criticism from both within and outside the Force.

Despite facing petitions and international scrutiny — including calls by rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju for the U.S. Embassy to revoke his visa — Adejobi was controversially promoted to Assistant Commissioner of Police. Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has repeatedly accused him of abuse of office, describing him as “one of the worst policemen ever recruited into the Nigeria Police Force.”

Police insiders told SaharaReporters that Adejobi often relied on proxy groups and media allies to defend his actions after his direct communications came under intense criticism. His role in high-profile controversies, including the assault and alleged framing of critics, further tainted his image.

Sources say his redeployment signals a reset for the Force’s Public Relations Department, with Hundeyin now expected to restore credibility and rebuild strained relationships with the public.
