The Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (YOSEMA), has awarded two individuals for their display of honesty during intervention programs in the state.

The awardees, Mohammed Idriss Bomoi and Amina Adamu Mafa, were awarded on Thursday during YOSEMA end of year retreat in the state capital, Damaturu.

According Dr. Mohammed Goje, YOSEMA executive secretary, Malam Idriss was voluntarily helping the agency in distribution of relief items to vulnerable people in the state when he returned excess items.

“Among all the awards, these two truly stand out and warm my heart. They highlight the actions of independent individuals who aren’t part of SEMA.

“Mohammed Idriss Bomoi returned excess food items, including several bags of rice, after recieving and distributing to vulnerable persons,” he said.

After realizing that the number of the items is more than the allocation to the community, YOSEMA boss said that Malam Idriss “immediately” returned the items to the agency.

However, Amina he said, is was an internally displaced person in a village, and a beneficiary of a support program who also returned excess cash given to her during distribution.

“Amina Adamu Mafa, from Mafa, a village affected by NSAGs attacks and now in a host community of Babbangida, received cash assistance. When she discovered she was given 50k more than her entitlement, she sought out our staff to return the excess,” Dr. Goje said.

He noted that their actions “shows that honesty and integrity can be found everywhere, from the bustling streets of Damaturu to the remote village of Mafa.”

Also part of the retreat is an award ceremony for YOSEMA staffs and volunteers who has performed well during the preceding year.
