Federal civil servants in Nigeria have begun receiving the ₦35,000 wage award for the month of September, following a promise by President Bola Tinubu in August.

The special support, which is said to be in an effort to cushion the effects of fuel subsidy removal, is to last for six months.

Civil servants who said they have received alerts for the payment have expressed their excitement.

The government has said that the wage increase is a necessary measure to support civil servants and their families. The government has also said that it is committed to improving the welfare of all Nigerians.

News Agency of Nigeria has reported that the overjoyed workers have been jubilating after receipt of the payment.
