The federal government has tasked the Central Bank of Nigeria to provide foreign exchange at a single-digit interest rate of 1.5 per cent to 2 per cent to domestic airline operators.

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, disclosed this on Monday when Airline Operators of Nigeria paid him a courtesy visit.

The Minister’s charge comes amid lingering forex scarcity in Nigeria.

“The ministry will liaise with the CBN to see how operators can get forex at a single-digit interest rate of 1.5 to two per cent as requested,” he said.

He then called on the operators to ensure their airlines’ safety, stressing that this was key to the aviation industry’s success.

Earlier, President, AON, Abdulmunaf Yunusa and his team asked the Minister to help end recurring forex and aviation fuel challenges.
