The National Youth Service Corps will re-open orientation camp in Borno, after remaining closed for nearly a decade.

The camp was shutdown as a result of the Boko Haram insurgency which, in previous years, was feared to be one of the terrorists’ target.

During Vice President Kashim Shettima’s visit to Shehu Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai Al’amin Elkanemi, the Shehu of Borno pleaded to the federal government to reopen the camp.

The Shehu explained that relative peace has been restored in the state and ‘even the Katsina State where Borno camp is situated is facing same security threats.’

The vice president, then assured that the camp would be reopened.

An inside source confirmed that the old NYSC camp which hosted internally displaced persons, wouldn’t be used, rather, the Arabic Teacher’s Village in Maiduguri.

Already, prospective corp members are directed not to proceed to Katsina for their orientation.
