A group of six aspirants seeking the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket in Yobe State says it has begun further consultations following a meeting with Vice President Kashim Shettima in Abuja.

In a statement issued after Saturday’s meeting, the group, known as the “G-6”, said discussions focused on the ongoing process for selecting the APC governorship candidate for Yobe State and efforts to reach a workable resolution acceptable to all parties.

According to the statement, the Vice President invited the group for what it described as “fruitful discussions” at his residence on 9 May 2026.

The group said the meeting considered an appeal by Mr Shettima for members of the G-6 to reconsider their support for former Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Baba Mallam Wali, as their preferred APC governorship candidate.

It added that participants agreed to continue exploratory consultations aimed at achieving either a consensus arrangement involving all seven aspirants or conducting peaceful direct primaries.

The statement said the discussions were guided by “the interest of the people of Yobe State”.

The G-6 also expressed appreciation to the Vice President for what it described as his neutrality and commitment to ensuring a peaceful and widely acceptable resolution of the matter.

The statement was issued in Abuja on 9 May 2026.
