Senator Ibrahim Mohammed Bomai has announced his intention to contest the 2027 gubernatorial primaries in Yobe State under the All Progressives Congress (APC), framing his decision as a commitment to public service rather than personal ambition.

In a statement addressed to supporters and residents of the state, the two-term senator said the moment required reflection on leadership, unity, and the broader interests of the people.

He acknowledged that he remains eligible to seek a third term in the Senate, describing the opportunity as one “laid before me on a platter of gold”, but stressed that his political vision extends beyond remaining in the upper chamber.

“Any pursuit that does not serve the greater good ultimately serves only personal interest,” he said. “My heart is with the people of Yobe State — our youth, women, and future generations. Their future must guide the decisions we make today.”

Senator Bomai called for what he described as a shift in political direction, noting that the state has followed a similar path for nearly three decades. He urged party members and stakeholders to prioritise inclusivity and public opinion in the selection of candidates.

“It is only fair to ask: why not try something different?” he said. “Let us listen to the people across all zones of the state and allow their voices to shape the outcome of our primaries.”

He also referenced recent electoral reforms, saying the amended Electoral Act strengthens the role of citizens in determining party candidates.

Framing his candidacy as people-driven, Senator Bomai emphasised that his campaign would focus on development, progress, and long-term planning.

“This decision is not about position or power,” he said. “It is about building a future that reflects the aspirations of the people and works for everyone.”

Senator Bomai currently represents Yobe South Senatorial District and is seeking the APC ticket ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
