A prominent Yobe-based philanthropist and political figure, Sani Ahmad Kaitafi, has defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), in a move that may reshape political alignments in the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Kaitafi, known for his extensive humanitarian support to women and vulnerable groups in Bade and Jakusko local government areas of Yobe State, formally announced his defection on Thursday.

The development follows his recent resignation as Chief of Staff to the Executive Chairman of the Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service, a position he stepped down from on March 24, 2026.

While Kaitafi has yet to publicly outline the full reasons behind his defection, sources close to the development suggest the move is part of broader political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections.

His entry into the ADC is expected to bolster the party’s presence in Yobe State, potentially intensifying competition with established political structures in the region.
