Yobe Makes History as 25-Year-Old Becomes State’s First Female Cadet Officer

25 years old Rose Gabole Samaila, has made history as Yobe State first ever female cadet officer to successfully pass out from the prestigious Nigerian Police Academy, an example of women’s involvement in national security and leadership.

 

Samaila, an indigene of Fika Local Government, graduated from the Nigerian Police Academy yesterday  Saturday 29 November after completing an intense programme that tested her discipline, and ability to endure and mentally perform her duties and conducting stressful tests throughout the training programme.

 

With a B.Sc. in Biology, Rose has been celebrated throughout her state for her commitment to her studies as well as for her academic achievement.

 

Current student of the academy who also hail from Yobe said “it as a turning point for gender equality in the state and reminding them of the potential available to young women in Yobe. As discussions surrounding women in uniformed services continue to grow throughout the country, Rose’s success adds a voice to the conversation about what can happen when you have an opportunity, along with courage to take advantage of that opportunity.”

 

It is expected that community leaders, youth organisations and women’s organisations will be having conversations in the days ahead about how to build on this momentum in Yobe and the northern region to create opportunities for more girls and young women to pursue careers in fields traditionally dominated by men.
