The Federal Government has clarified that it has no immediate plan to implement the recently introduced 5 per cent Petroleum Products Tax, despite its inclusion in the new tax legislation.
Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, made the disclosure on Tuesday during a press briefing in Abuja.
The announcement comes amid growing public anger over the policy, with organised labour warning the government to reverse the tax or risk nationwide industrial action.
Edun assured that the government remains mindful of the economic hardship faced by Nigerians and will act cautiously in rolling out any new tax measures.
