Taraba Government vaccinates Cattle on the Mambilla Plateau

Taraba State Government has officially flagged off treatment of livestock affected by diseases in Sardauna Local Government Area of the State.

Flagging off the exercise in Gembu, Taraba State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Professor Nicholas Namessan Oliver said the exercise will mitigate the spread of the Haemorrhagic septicaemia disease that is affecting livestock.

The commissioner said the first phase of the exercise was designed to treat affected animals before general vaccination of livestock in the Local Government.

Oliver pledged the commitment of the state governor, Agbu Kefas to extend the treatment to neighboring local government areas.

He solicited the support of all herders to use the opportunity by maximally utilizing the good intention of Government by supporting the initiatives.

In his remarks, Chairman of Sardauna Local Government Council Mohammed Umar charged herders to bring their cattle for treatment.

Represented by the Chief of Staff Salihu Bodel, the Chairman thanked Governor Agbu Kefas for his quick intervention by providing drugs to treat the animals.

Overviewing the disease, Head of Taraba State Veterinary Services Doctor Gideon Ibrahim disclosed that the livestock disease haemoragic septicemia is mainly found on the high land mostly on the Mambilla Plateau which normally affects the heart, lung and other vital organs of animals.

He encouraged people on the plateau to also vaccinate their livestock annually.

The team of Veterinary officers from the State and Sardauna Local Government Area have advanced treatment of the livestock in Furmi, Kwarakwara, Dorofi, Mayo Ndaga and other communities.

However, cattle rearers at the Mambilla Plateau have lamented over their loses within a very short time of the outbreak of the disease which killed over a thousand cattle and appealed to the State Government to take more measures to completely stop the outbreak of all cattle diseases in the State.
