YSU Fire Incident: Gov Buni order immediate re-accommodation of female hostel

Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has ordered the immediate re-accommodation of female hostel at Yobe State University.

On Tuesday evening, a fire incident had occured at one of the Girls Hostel of Yobe State University which led to the complete burning of the hostel.

In a statement by Yobe State Emergency Management Agency, YOSEMA, gave the other while commiserating with the students of the institution.

According to YOSEMA, the hostel accomodates approximately 128 legal occupants with plus or minus 50 additional students.

The fire incident left all the aforementioned students stranded at the time of the incident.

Idi Barade, the state’s deputy governor who represented his principal, visited the scene of the incident while commiserating with the management and students of the university called on YOSEMA to ensure the students are re-accomodated with dignity.

‘No life was lost, as 16 students admitted at hospital were all discharged in the night,’ the statement said.

Dr. Mohammed Goje, the Executive Secretary, ES of YOSEMA, while assessing the temporary site for relocation of the students provided by the university, immediately swung into action to deliver first line life-saving kits to the students.

‘As at 11:00pm of Tuesday, YOSEMA has mobilised 5 cartons of sanitary pads, 51 double sized vitafoam mattresses,188 pieces of nylon mats, 57 pieces of blankets and 350 pieces of mosquito nets.

‘200 pieces of 20 liter buckets, 200 pieces of dinning plates, 200 pieces of cups, 159 pieces of bathroom slippers and 80 pieces of bread.
