Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has received a delegation from the National Hydro-Electric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) on a courtesy visit, led by the Managing Director, Saidu Yelwa.

The delegation was hosted at the TY Danjuma House, Jalingo, on Thursday, January 15, 2026, where Governor Kefas reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to working closely with the Commission to fast-track development across Taraba State.

The Governor described Taraba as one of Nigeria’s critical energy-resource hubs, noting that effective harnessing of its hydro-electric potential would significantly accelerate the state’s socio-economic transformation.

He said the visit was timely, as it would enable N-HYPPADEC officials to gain first-hand understanding of conditions on the ground and better appreciate the development needs of the state.

Governor Kefas also drew the Commission’s attention to the poor state of educational infrastructure, particularly in Northern Nigeria, and appealed for N-HYPPADEC’s support in addressing the challenges.

“The lack of adequate infrastructure in our schools informed our decision to declare free education at the primary and secondary levels in Taraba State, alongside ongoing rehabilitation and upgrades of educational institutions. We have also developed a template for the establishment of smart schools across the state,” the Governor said.

He expressed appreciation to the Commission for its ongoing interventions and support to Taraba State.

Earlier, the Managing Director of N-HYPPADEC, Saidu Yelwa, described the visit as significant, stressing that sustainable development is best achieved through cooperation, dialogue, and shared goals between governments and institutions.

Yelwa thanked the Taraba State Government for the warm reception and reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to improving the welfare of communities within its mandate areas.

He explained that the visit formed part of an ongoing tour of newly admitted member states of the Commission—Kaduna, Taraba, Gombe, and Nasarawa—which were formally admitted into N-HYPPADEC in June 2023 under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

According to him, N-HYPPADEC recognises the environmental and social burdens borne by communities hosting hydro-electric power facilities and remains committed to providing focused attention, protection, and development-driven investments in such areas.
