‘Forests should be carpet-bombed, trees replanted’ – El-Rufai

Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State has shared his thoughts on what should be done to flush out bandits terrorizing people of the State.

El-Rufai said security operatives should “carpet-bomb forests” where bandits are located.

Speaking on Arise Tv on Monday, the Governor said the trees around the affected forest can be replanted later, after the area has been bombed.

He, however, admitted that carpet-bombing the forests would lead to collateral damage.

El-Rufai noted that such measure would boost Agriculture in the rural communities.

The Governor said lack of manpower was responsible for the prolonged inability of security operatives to curb banditry in the northwest.

According to El-Rufai: “These bandits operate in the periphery because their hiding place is in the forest. It’s a major problem. The security agencies are doing their best but they are overstretched.

“The reality is we don’t have enough boots on ground to address the myriad of security challenges that we face, and these security challenges are asymmetric, widespread, and there’s no part of Nigeria that doesn’t have one security problem or the other.

“Ramp up the number of boots and more technology and more investment in armament and wipe these guys once and for all.

“I’ve always believed that, you know, we should carpet-bomb the forests; we can replant the trees after. Let’s carpet-bomb the forests and bomb all of them.”

You’re making Ronaldo, Cavani useless at Man United – Rio Ferdinand to Ralf

Former Manchester United defender, Rio Ferdinand has said that Ralf Rangnick is making Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani useless.

Hitting out at Rangnick’s tactics, the former England international queried why the German had such forwards in his team without players that are capable of crossing the ball from wide areas on the field.

Ferdinand was angered by Manchester United’s 1-0 defeat to Wolves on Monday and believes the interim boss is not getting the best out of Ronaldo and Cavani, the Red Devils’ biggest attacking threats.

A late strike from Wolves midfielder Joao Moutinho condemned United to a 1-0 defeat at Old Trafford being their first under Ralf Rangnick.

It was also Manchester United first defeat to Wolves since 1980 and iy was a deserving victory for the visitors who dominated the game.

Ferdinand feels the current tactics by Rangnick hinder the performances of star strikers Ronaldo and Cavani.

“My biggest gripe is when you’ve got Cavani and Ronaldo in your team, two of the best attackers of the ball from wide areas and you don’t play with any width or players that are capable of putting the ball in from wide areas, then it almost feels as though it’s a pointless task,” he told Rio Ferdinand Presents FIVE.

“You have to play to their strengths. Ronaldo can do other things as well, so can Cavani.

“But if two of their big things are when you cross the ball, get the ball in the box.

“I know when he plays the 4-2-2-2 it’s about full-backs being the width, but Wan-Bissaka is not the man to cross the ball.

“Shaw can do it when he gets up there but we didn’t have enough possession against Wolves.”

Ferdinand pointed out that the way Manchester United were playing did not allow them to cross the ball into good positions for the ever-ready Ronaldo and Cavani.

The defeat to Wolves at Old Trafford meant that Manchester United are now four points behind fourth-placed Arsenal, though the Red Devils have a game in hand.

Their next league match will be against Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa and Rangnick will be without Luke Shaw and Scott McTominay who will be serving a one-match suspension each.

Rochas Okorocha and Uche Nwosu are bandits, kidnappers’ sponsors – Imo Govt

Imo State Government says some suspects have named former Governor Rochas Okorocha and Uche Nwosu as sponsors of bandits and kidnappers.

Nwosu, Okorocha’s son-in-law, was a Deputy Chief of Staff and Action Alliance (AA) Imo governorship candidate in 2019

A statement on Tuesday by Oguwike Nwachuku, Governor Hope Uzodinma’s Chief Press Secretary, said the duo were funding violence in the State.

The spokesman pointedly accused them of fueling “kidnapping, banditry, arson and cannibalism”.

Nwachuku said they had been promoting news of the alleged arrest of the security officers attached to Uzodimma.

He noted that the aim was to stop the governor’s vow to expose the identities of those behind insecurity and other forms of criminality in Imo.

“The current media frenzy by both Rochas Okorocha and Uche Nwosu appears to be strengthening the notion of their culpability.

“The duo have resorted to publishing falsehood yet again about security officers in the State Government House.

“Their claim of the arrest and detention of a certain Shaba, whom they falsely allege to be the CSO to the Imo State Governor is strange as the Governor’s CSO is not known by the name of Shaba,” he said.

Nwachuku maintained that no security officer in the Governor’s security team was either arrested or is currently unaccounted for.

“Okorocha and Nwosu have been specifically mentioned by suspects who are in the custody of security agents, as being sponsors of kidnapping and banditry in Imo State, using their relationship with former ex-militants to perpetrate the crimes,” he alleged.

He said instead of clearing their names, they appear bent on using both overt and covert means to blackmail the Police High Command, “which legitimately arrested Uche Nwosu.”

The statement told the public to ignore reports against the State government, as well as the “failed attempt to frustrate the Imo stakeholders’ meeting taking place on Tuesday”.

EPL: Lukaku would lose the battle with Tuchel – Jamie Carragher

Former Liverpool star, Jamie Carragher has said that Romelu Lukaku would be the loser in a battle with Chelsea manager, Thomas Tuchel.

According to the Liverpool legend, it would be easier for Chelsea to replace Lukaku than Tuchel.

In a controversial interview with Sky Sports Italia, Lukaku had expressed his dissatisfaction with his situation at Stamford Bridge, saying he wanted to return to Inter Milan.

Tuchel dropped him for his side’s crunch 2-2 draw with Liverpool on Sunday with reports in England suggesting that Lukaku could push for a January transfer.

Carragher, a Liverpool legend believes it may now be easier to bring in a replacement for Lukaku instead of the ‘top-class’ Tuchel should it come down to a decision between the two.

“In the past, the players have always won against the manager. Right now, I think in terms of top managers in world football, I’d say there’s a dearth of them,” Carragher told Sky Sports.

“We’ve got three in the Premier League – Jurgen Klopp, Pep Guardiola and Tuchel.

“But look at the problems Man Utd are having right now in terms of their managerial situation. They still don’t know who they’re going to get at the end of the season or who is out there who can compete with these three.

“Right now, for Chelsea, even though they’ve had great success changing managers over the last 10-15 years.

“I actually think it may be easier to replace Lukaku than the manager they’ve got. They’ve got a top-class manager right now.”

Chelsea, in the second position in the Premier League table, were held to a 2-2 draw by Liverpool at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. Lukaku was nowhere near Thomas Tuchel’s squad for the game.
