Security personnel on Tuesday took over the Jigawa State House of Assembly amid an alleged underground move to impeach the Speaker, Rt Hon Isyaku Aliyu Dangyatin, by some members of the house.

MaidawaArewa noted that armed security personnel, including police officers and Nigeria Civil Defense Corps personnel, have taken control of the assembly complex in Dutse the state capital.

It was learned that some aggrieved members initiated the impeachment process based on alleged high-handedness, personalized management of House affairs and poor leadership.

This occurred as the Speaker joined Governor Umar Namadi’s delegation to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on an official trip.

It was reliably gathered that this move compelled him to suspend his trip and catch a flight back home to thwart the efforts of his colleagues.

Police Spokesman, DSP Lawal Shisu Adam, stated that the police had received intelligence reports on a movement that may cause a breach of public peace and stability in the area. In view of that, they increased security presence as a proactive measure.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, one of the senior staff members of the assembly confirmed that when he reached the assembly gate in the early morning hours, he was denied access to his office despite presenting his ID card to the security personnel who blocked the assembly entrance.
