Herdsmen on reprisal attack raze down Yobe villages

The people of Gurjaje and Malari villages in Fika LGA of Yobe State were left traumatized after Fulani herdsmen invaded their communities on Monday.

Reports indicate that the invading herdsmen who were on reprisal mission against the villagers following an alleged push back by the communities when their water melon farm were encroached on by cattles belonging to the Fulani.

According to Zagazola Makama, counter insurgency expert and security analyst in the Lake Chad region, the invading herdsmen stormed the communities on motorcycles with most of them carrying bows and arrows as well as marchets.

Though casualties are still uncertain, the invading herdsmen succeeded in burning down several housing units in the area.

Sources said the initial altercation between the herdsmen and farmers in the communities happened in January when the cattle destroyed the water melon farms.

It was learnt that the herdsmen who claimed that some of their cattle were rustled by the farmers vowed to teach the communities the lessons of their lives.

As at the time of filing this report, no arrest has been made and the distraught farmers are counting their loss.
