A Boko Haram faction loyal to Ali Ngulde has killed two women in the Mandara Mountain area of Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State after accusing them of engaging in shirk (idolatry).

Sources familiar with the incident told Zagazola Makama that the women were detained by the group after insurgents allegedly found charms (layu) on them during a search operation around settlements controlled by the faction.

In a video reviewed by the outlet, the insurgents claimed the items were proof of forbidden religious practices and subjected the women to what they described as their “internal trial process,” which routinely lacks legitimacy and due process.

“They accused the women of practising shirk based on the charms allegedly recovered from them. After the so-called trial, they were taken away and killed,” one source said.

The source added that the act was carried out in front of fighters and local residents in an attempt to intimidate communities and enforce compliance with the faction’s strict doctrines.

Reports indicate that the Ali Ngulde faction has recently intensified punitive actions against individuals accused of sorcery, spying, or attempting to defect, with several targeted in similar crackdowns.
