PDP Accuses Zulum Of Building Schools Without Teachers, Substandard Roads

0

The governorship candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Borno State, Alhaji Mohammed Jajari, has criticised the Borno State government under Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of constructing mega schools across the state without qualified teachers to man the schools.

The opposition candidate said notwithstanding the inadequacy of teachers in the state, the government still embarked on retrenchment of existing ones.

Jajari, who said this while addressing party supporters on Thursday in Maiduguri, added that the much-talked-about resettlement project of the Zulum administration was not what is being portrayed, alleging that most of the internally displaced persons (IDPs), who have been evacuated out of Maiduguri, are still in camps at the various local government headquarters instead of their ancestral homes.

He said during his recent visit to Monguno local government area in the northern part of Borno State, he met the IDPs, who had been resettled out of Maiduguri at the IDPs camps in the local government headquarters.

He also accused the State government of using direct labour to build roads that get dilapidated in months just for the enrichment of Zulum’s cronies and family members.

Jajari said, “The All Progressives Congress (APC) government in Borno State is building schools without teachers, building schools amid retrenchment of teachers. Some of us grew up in Maiduguri, in some of our schools we sat under the trees, but then we had teachers.

“You build roads that become dilapidated after some months because you are just trying to make money. This is not what our people need. People don’t get access to quality education, quality healthcare. Three of our borders are closed and thus impoverishing the business community and crippling the State economy,” the PDP candidate said.

He added that the PDP was ripe to take over power not only in the State but at the federal level, stressing that the unpopular policies of the APC in Borno will make the electorate massively vote for the PDP despite incumbency factor of the ruling party.

“In Borno, people are yearning for change because of discontent with the current APC government. All what the people see are social media razzmatazz, nothing is happening on ground. And if you are not doing something and then, you are keeping quiet, people will be watching, but when you are projecting yourself to be some sort of messiah, and then there is nothing on ground, that will get into people’s head, and with that APC is losing momentum in the state.

“The PDP in Borno is coming to rectify unpopular policies of the APC government such as retrenchment, worsening condition of civil servants, execution of substandard projects and awarding of direct labour to cronies and families, ensure security of lives and properties of the citizens among others,” Jajari stated.

Gov Zulum Visits 10 Farms In Four LGs, Explain FG Fertilizer Ban

0

The Governor of Borno State, Babagana Umara Zulum, visited 10 farmlands in four local governments area of Borno; Maiduguri Metropolitan Council, Jere, Mafa and Dikwa to monitor farming activities.

During visits, Zulum, a University Professor of irrigation farming, interacted with farmers, asking them of problems they face so he could address them, with rainy season in place, majority of the farmers were seen weeding and planting across most farmlands when the governor paid them the visits.

Zulum explained to farmers that unlike in other states, Borno State was not able to procure and allocate NPK fertilizer to farmers because there was an existing ban by the federal government through office of the National Security Adviser.

“We have long been in receipt of a security letter from the office of the National Security Adviser which placed ban on the usage of urea as well as NPK across Borno State because insurgents use these fertilizer components to produce improvised explosive devices (IEDs). It will therefore not augur well for the government of Borno State to distribute that fertilizer as the case in most states”, Zulum said.

The governor however explained that the only option is to distribute liquid fertilizer.

Professor Zulum said he was excited with the turnout of farmers he met on ground during his visits and from reports he got, similar and even more farming activities in areas like southern Borno which has been more peaceful over the years.

He said it was for that reason that he directed the allocation of farm inputs and tractors to farmers in parts of Borno’s three senatorial zones: Central, South and North.

He promised to enhance his focus on agriculture especially continued strengthening of agro rangers and other security groups to sustain safe farming activities across Borno State.

I Pity Nigeria’s Next President, Says Gumi

0

A controversial Kaduna-based Islamic cleric, Sheikh Dr. Ahmad Abubakar Gumi, has said Nigerian is suffering from “disabling diseases” under the All Progressives Congress (APC) led administration, just as he expressed pity for the next president.

The cleric said in an an opinion that Nigeria is suffering from diseases including leprosy, diabetes and HIV/AIDS.

Towards this end, he said the next president needs to be intelligent and supported by men with acumen, and not a ‘garagara’ person with an impulsive temperament that is after the praise of sentimental citizens.

“He has to act quickly and carefully, he has to center his efforts and concentration inwards not outside. I know a lot of our problems have roots in foreign interests, yet local problems must be solved locally.

“The economy is in such disarray that needs a true nationalist that will institute measures even if they are against these ‘fake’ corporate bodies that are “Draculas” sucking the blood out of the nation. Not the kind of ineffective but detrimental measures we experienced in the past, but well-studied economic measures that will not only increase the GPD but raise the per capita income of the individuals. Today in Nigeria, the middle-class income strata are almost effaced. You are either poor or extremely rich,” he said.

“In leprosy, a disease that attacks the sensory nervous system, the brain is unaware of the suffering of the extremities. The presidency which represents the brain is not getting the true picture of the grassroots suffering and the excruciating poverty breaking the masses because the feedback system is attacked by corruption, wickedness and immorality.

“In diabetes, there is abundant sugar produced in the body but it’s not getting into the body tissues for metabolism and its excess is left in the bloodstream destroying vital organs. With HIV, the defense system is weakened to the extent that a small group of rag-tag criminals can kill the nation and bring it to a halt,” he added.

He further noted that the recent BBC Africa Eye and Daily Trust documentaries about the insurgency in Zamfara State had exposed the ethnic and tribal undertones as the real genesis of the mayhem the North Western region is experiencing.

He averted that the crimes were committed by both sides of the divide but unfortunately, the outside world sees one side as the only criminal, and thus the government acted in such a line of thinking messing up the conflict and applying the wrong measures of communal conflict resolution.
