The North-East Governors’ Forum (NEGF) has commended the progress made in the fight against insurgency in the sub-region, urging security agencies to sustain the momentum until peace is fully restored.

This was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of the Forum’s 12th meeting held in Jalingo, Taraba State, and read by the Chairman of the Forum, Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni.

The governors expressed concern over the devastating impact of climate change and recurring floods, calling for the relocation of vulnerable communities living on floodplains to safer areas. They further urged the North East Development Commission (NEDC) and other relevant agencies to prioritize the reconstruction of roads and bridges damaged by floods across the region.

On agriculture, the Forum decried the rising cost of farm inputs, especially this cropping season, and appealed for increased supply and subsidies to encourage irrigation farming and boost food security.

In a bid to revive regional commerce, the governors agreed to rejuvenate the North-East Trade Fair, which will resume in Maiduguri in December 2025. They also considered the development of a regional solar energy masterplan to improve electricity supply across their states.

The Forum congratulated the University of Maiduguri on its 50th anniversary, pledging to support the institution in strengthening academic and research excellence.

The meeting, hosted by Taraba State, brought together governors from across the North-East to deliberate on security, climate change, agriculture, infrastructure, and regional development.
